Now, I'm not much of a joiner, but one of the best things I've gotten involved in since we moved to Ohio, is FIRST Robotics This weekend is the 2009 Buckeye Regional at the Weinstein center in downtown Cleveland. This three day event is free to the public and promises to be a great deal of fun for everyone who attends. The main fun (competition finals) will happen on Saturday. The kids have worked really hard this year (as they do every year) and have built a very competitive robot for this years game. This blog entry is almost 10 years overdue. My only excuse is that back in the year 2000 (sheesh - has it been that long?) I didn't have a blog. But I'm not one for excuses... so here it is, better later than never :-) In the late summer of 2000, while I was living in VA, I got inspired to build a trebuchet . The story goes.... Once upon a time (circa 2000 CE) my good friend, Lee Long (whom I truly do miss) had just discovered the S.C.A. . He was quick to liberate me from the mundane understanding I had about my area. It turns out that I did NOT live in Newport News, VA, but in [SCA] reality, I was actually living dead in the heart of the " Kindom of Atlantia " in the barony of " Tir-y-Don ". ...Who knew?! As is turned out, my buddy Lee owed his loyalty to the neighboring barony, that of " Marinus " and my loyalties were with my buddy. Someone sent me this when we first moved to Ohio. I laughed really hard when I read it the first time. Now its uncomfortably close to home ;-) Enjoy... DIARY OF A SNOW SHOVELER December 17th --- 6:00 PM - It started to snow. The first snow of the season and the wife and I took our cocktails and sat for hours by the window watching the huge soft flakes drift down from heaven. It looked like a Grandma Moses Print. So romantic we felt like newlyweds again. I love snow! December 18th --- We woke to a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the whole world? Moving here was the best idea I've ever had! Shoveled for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks. This afternoon the snowplow came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a perfect life!
